Your electronics contain precious metals! In rough numbers, there are approximately 10 troy ounces of gold for every ton of smartphones. Ponder this for a moment, in the year 2015 Apple recovered 2,204 pounds of gold from recycled Apple iPhone, iPads and MacBooks. It was a total of 40 million dollars in value! Researchers estimate that 300 tons of gold is used each year in electronics globally. That’s approximately 7% of total gold usage annually worldwide. Japan has even started a new campaign to make the Olympic Gold medals from recycled Gold in an effort to encourage their citizens to recycle their old electronics.
