Description
The first coins of the American Gold Eagle series were struck by the U.S. Mint in 1986. Today, the early dates are widely collected and are also a trusted choice among stackers. This 1 oz. American Gold Eagle has a proof finish and was struck at the West Point Mint in 1993. Mintage of this coin was moderate, only 34,369 of them struck.
Patriotic Designs by Saint-Gaudens and Busiek
The obverse of this proof displays Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty design. This design can also be found on the classic Double Eagle gold piece, which was first used in the early 1900’s.
On the reverse, a Bald Eagle nest can be seen. There are a few eagles in it and one of the adults is just about to land. The gold content is inscribed on this side.
Certified PF70 UC by NGC
The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) was selected to grade this coin. From their 70 point scale it was awarded the highest grade possible, Proof 70. That means this coin lacks any post-production flaws, even when examined with 5x magnification. Since it also exhibits a high level of visual contrast, it received the Ultra Cameo designation.
