Description
1/10 oz American Gold Eagle – Random Year BU
The 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle combines the recognition of the American Gold Eagle series with one of its smallest and most accessible fractional-gold sizes. First introduced by the United States Mint in 1986, each tenth-ounce Gold Eagle contains exactly 0.100 troy ounce of pure gold and carries a legal-tender face value of $5.
This listing is for a random-year Brilliant Uncirculated 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle. The specific year supplied will depend on available inventory. American Gold Eagle Design
The obverse features Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ famous depiction of Liberty, adapted from his celebrated design for the historic $20 Double Eagle. Liberty advances forward carrying a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, with rays of sunlight rising behind her.
The reverse design depends on the year received. American Gold Eagles issued from 1986 through part of 2021 feature the original family-of-eagles design. Beginning in 2021, the U.S. Mint introduced a new reverse featuring a detailed portrait of an American bald eagle.
Why Buy a 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle?
The tenth-ounce American Gold Eagle provides many of the benefits of the larger Gold Eagle denominations at a significantly lower total purchase price. Its small fractional size can make it easier to begin acquiring physical gold, add to a position incrementally or sell smaller portions of a bullion holding when desired.
Fractional Gold Eagles can also provide additional flexibility compared with a single larger coin. Rather than needing to buy or sell an entire ounce of gold at once, buyers can hold gold in smaller individually recognized units.
Although the 1/10 oz American Gold Eagle is struck from a 22-karat alloy, every coin contains exactly one-tenth troy ounce of pure gold. Silver and copper are added to the alloy to improve durability and resistance to scratching and handling damage.
American Gold Eagles are also among the U.S. gold coins permitted for qualifying self-directed Precious Metals IRAs. Learn more about Precious Metals IRAs or explore our complete selection of gold coins and bullion.
What Does Random Year Mean?
The specific year you receive will be selected from American Federal Coin & Bullion’s available inventory when your order is fulfilled. Multiple-coin orders may include the same year or different years. Because the American Gold Eagle underwent a reverse-design transition in 2021, random-year inventory may feature either the original family-of-eagles reverse or the newer bald-eagle portrait.
