Description
To celebrate the Buffalo Nickel’s 100th Anniversary, the U.S. Mint released a special Gold Buffalo Reverse Proof with a frosted background and mirror-like design. The design of the 2013-W $50 Gold Buffalo is modelled after the Type I Buffalo Nickel first issued in 1913. This design was revived in 2006 as the first 24-karat gold proof coin ever struck by the U.S. Mint. This proof, struck at U.S. Mint’s West Point facility in New York, carries a value of $50, is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .9999 fine gold, and has a total mintage of 47,836.
